Volunteering in Ghana exposes you to rural Africa more than any other destinations.

The volunteer and internship program of Book to Read foundation is a wonderful opportunity to gain extremely valuable experience in developing literacy and technology skills in basic school children in communities. We offer participants an opportunity to enrich their life talents and also share in the knowledge by following and observing professional daily activities in schools and host communities. Our volunteering and Internship programs cover these areas:

  • Teaching: Volunteers may teach a variety of subjects, but are primarily useful for their English speaking skills. Children benefit greatly from volunteers who can bring a variety of perspectives to the classroom. This program does not require teaching experience, though it may be helpful.

Required Skills: You should be able to speak English, enjoy children, self-motivated, creative, fair knowledge in basic computing and willing to learn. Experience in training/teaching students is an advantage but not an essential

  • Game Master: Volunteers will be responsible for developing and conducting programs in sports, music and recreation, with activities like games, storytelling, educational drama, spelling bees, painting and arts. You will have an opportunity to learn Ghanaian traditional dance and songs from our children.

Required Skills: You should be physically fit, possess good communication skills, be understanding, and enjoy children. Experience in training/teaching children is an advantage but not essential.

  • Health Support: Interested participants are welcome to provide health assistance to sick children in the school as well as screening for various health conditions and ailments, including; reading clinic where children would have eye screening service, checking for blood pressure and hypertension, blood sugar test for diabetes, hepatitis B , Rapid Diagnostic Test for malaria , body mass index and mental screening

It is better and cheaper to detect eye problems in children. You save them the agony of pain and inability to read and most importantly visually impairment in adulthood

Volunteers can also provide health education on the prevention of illness like malaria, cholera, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and good sanitation practices.

Required Skills: Applicants interested to join this program must possess healthcare certification, such as: ID as a medical student, nursing, physical therapy or physician’s credentials. We do not permit volunteers without medical credentials to participate in this program due to the potential risk. This program also requires a copy of the volunteer’s resume which clearly documents the education and/or professional credentials, prior to arrival. The program will also require an official copy of the credentials.
