BOOK TO READ FOUNDATION
BOOK TO READ FOUNDATION
It’s a fact that reading to young children make them smarter, healthier and better prepared for life.
Studies show that reading for pleasure makes a big difference to children’s educational performance. It help build vocabulary and improve literacy, which is vital as you start to read.
Reading also expose children to a world of imagination and showing them that nothing is impossible in this world.
The challenge however is, most communities in Ghana lack substantial reading facilities which lead to a number of unique problems such as high illiteracy rate, poor language skills and more. These problems thus require equally unconventional solutions- the reason that led to the establishment of book to read foundation, a state-wide initiative that give books—free of charge—to basic school children in deprived communities between the ages of five and sixteen working towards bridging the education gap.
Established in 2015, Book to Read foundation is a registered non-profit making organisation in Ghana that aim to develop literacy and technology by embedding the act and love of reading into children in basic schools.
To achieve this goal, we focus on areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact: Literacy and Technology Development through reading.
Through the simple act of placing books in children’s hands, Book to Read foundation reinforces the powerful understanding that literacy begins well in children at the basic level of their education. The program has also reinforced the well documented link between literacy and technology.
The foundation has taken the beloved and intensely powerful practice of parents reading aloud to their children and made it the cornerstone of a community initiative that can significantly change, improve and empower the lives of children and the entire community.
Our programs reached the communities through a collaboration with the local government in the districts and has so far reached over 800 school children and distributed more than 1000 books.
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers. -Charles W. Elio.
We envision a future where all children in Ghana has the reading skills necessary to reach their full potential.
To help children become lifelong readers by empowering basic schools in the deprived communities with all the necessary reading tools and materials to achieve measurable results.
